Laura & Jason, evening wedding reception, San Pietro, Scunthorpe
I met Laura for the first time in August after she had attended a wedding that I’d styled, she and Jason were to be married 11 weeks later in Florence, but sadly I wasn’t required to book a flight for the job! Laura wanted help styling her evening reception venue for their UK celebrations. We started the process as is customary, over tea, I love this part of the process, getting to know my brides and listening to their ideas and hearing their stories. I soon realised that I would be having lots of fun with Laura and I wasn’t wrong.
With the wedding itself taking place at the stunning Salla Rossa in the Palazzo Vecchio and with traditional post ceremony celebrations at The Villa La Vedetta Laura and Jason wanted to have fun with their UK evening celebration scheme. With Laura’s love of all things vintage and kitsch it wasn’t long before a subtle Alice in Wonderland scheme was decided on.
The Mulino Suite at San Pietro provided the perfect stylish backdrop for the scheme and also continued the elegant Italian flavour. Everything from the ambient lighting, silver chairs and huge crystal chandeliers was just perfect.
The evening was a relaxed affair, with friends and family enjoying arancini and pizza followed by wedding cake and macarons, washed down with plenty of prosecco, live music in the form of local band Duke and the Daisy and lots of dancing.
Tables were dressed with mixed vintage floral cloths and tablescapes created using vintage clocks, books, bottles, candlesticks and frames, with toad stools and wood slices too. Floral elements were added in the form of miniature red rose bushes in vintage tea caddies. Local florist Bloom & Things also created displays in a set of vintage tea cups. Red heart balloons added height to the tables and further hinted to the theme.
I had fun sourcing lots of lovely items, not least the stunning pink feather flamingo which graced a side table and the vintage Alice in Wonderland images which were framed. As well as styling the guest tables a card table was created, I included another favourite prop, my Bambi lamp, here. A vintage dressing table displayed the stunning pink cameo cake by Sugar Rose Cake Design. Another table displayed some mementos from Florence along with Laura and her daughter Evie’s flowers and scrummy macarons.
Large LOVE lights by Lincolnshire Love Lights were the perfect backdrop for Laura in her stunning gown and Jason in his military uniform to have their first dance for their guests. Local student photographer was on hand during the evening, capturing a beautiful black and white image of Evie on the dance floor.
Talented Lincolnshire based photographer Henry Lowther was on hand to take some truly stunning images of the set up for me.
